May Challenge, a winner and a poll!
Well, I’ve been hinting about it, but now it’s time for the May challenge! You'll have until the 4th of June to post your completed card and/or project. Can't wait to see your cards and cute projects!
First, the winner for our April challenge is
creativexzen! She was the first (and only hehe) person to post here! So great job! I loved your Easter card and hope to see more of your creative stuff! Send me a pm with your address and I will send your prize!
The challenges are:
1- Matchbook Holder (Seed Packet Holder)
2 - Seed Packet Template
**Bonus challenge
- 1 to 5 card challenge (details below)
The first two projects I have for you are Seed Packet holders! The first one, you can use for just about anything! It’s commonly called a Matchbook Holder…because of the shape and folds.
Cut an 8.5 x 11 sheet vertically at 4 1/4 and 11 inches and score at 4 3/4 and 9 7/8. Fold along score lines and use a stapler to secure the bottom, and leave enough lip for the top sheet to fold down. You can use a button to cover the staple, or use a brad to secure the bottom. That method is easiest for me, but you can always poke holes for your button and secure it that way.
These two above are my seed packet holders (no inside picture), but see how easy it is to transform them into other holders?! I love the lemonade one for the summer time, and how fun would it be to make a bunch of cocoa holders and give them to out at Christmas time?
The second seed packet holder is an actual holder. There are a few templates to download. You can find them here or on the link on the sidebar of the community. I found these last year on a blog, but now that blog seems to have been removed or something. I'm just glad I found and downloaded these long ago! And yes, once again this is something I found, but never tried! So I was glad for the excuse to make one! They are really quick and make me want to make all of the little covers with cute stamps. There are three seed packet covers, a sheet of inserts, and the template. On the template, after you score and fold it, tape the bottom and side pieces to the back portion. The top flap will fold down and you can tape that down after you add the seeds. (The second picture kind of shows how that all works out). Cut and decorate the front cover. There are templates for a lot of different "seed varieties" including a watermelon, pumpkin, and even friendship seeds! Super cute, and of course I can't claim credit for it, yet I feel I can spread it because her blog isn't there anymore, and I've left the copyright on her templates. Does that work so you all won't get me in trouble? I sure hope so! :)
So those are your two "Flower" challenges! Have fun with them!
The bonus challenge this month is a 1 to 5 challenge. Inspired by a 1 to 10 challenge I participated in for scrapbooking, this is scaled down to a card size. Here are the requirements for this challenge card!
You must have at least the number specified, but you can use multiple. You have to have at least one (or two, three, etc.) of the required element. Make sense? Here are the things you need to use on your card.
1 Stamped Image (can substitute for a rub-on, a die cut, etc.)
2 Patterned papers
3 Colors Cardstock (can be 2 colors and 1 neutral, or 3 colors and a neutral like white, black or cream)
4 Brads or Eyelets
5 inches of ribbon or fiber
Think it can't be done? It can I promise! For this card I used white, green, yellow and blue for my base cardstock. On the punched out flowers I used two different kinds of patterned paper, and then the four flowers provided spots for the eyelets. The stamped greeting at the bottom for my one stamped image, and then the ribbon tied around the center put it all together. See...easy peasy! The picture doesn't quite show it, but to add a little depth to the card I crinkled the main square, the little squares and the flowers and then smoothed them out a little.
Ok well there you go! Hope this is fun for you guys!
Just wanted to gauge the interest of the community as well, so here's a little poll just to check. I love making fun new projects, but I want this to be a fun place to share stuff. :D

Yes! Its fun seeing new stuff even if I might not have time to play.
Yeah, its interesting, but not what I was thinking it would be.
No, I'm not interested at this time.
Meh, I can take it or leave it.
The last challenge just wasn't for me, but maybe I'll try something if it catches my interest!
Ok so I'll post some challenge/techniques each month and they're to get you thinking or get out of your comfort zone to make something different. So you can do something with the theme, like its flowers so you can do something with the flower and the seed packets, or a card with flowers, or well really anything goes! Like Laci made the matchbook holder thing, but did it for summer...so yeah...its up to you, however you want to do it, but yes you are right, you don't need to duplicate my cards you are doing your own spin! Those are just my attempts to try my own challenges since I need the challenge every now and then too, haha! You are super creative, so I'm excited to see what you make! :) Let me know if you have any questions at all, I love talking crafts and cards so I'm happy to give pointers or give you links to good craft sites, etc. Ok so there you go, sorry I talk a ton!
that matchbook one is fun because you can do tons with it and its like a "wow" factor since its so unique!
Hehe, cool well when you finish I can't wait to see it! Have fun sewing! I'm also excited to see the garb on TTMT!
